Twenty-nine-year-old British model and entrepreneur Charli Howard, who has posed for Agent Provocateur and Honey Birdette, wastes no time in clapping back at Instagram trolls.
Last week, the model shared an #OOTD post on Instagram wearing high-rise corduroy flares and a £250 sheer yellow crop top. The unique top, by US brand Mirror Palais, features long sleeves, a collar, and a curved underwire that creates a bra-like effect. It’s slightly sheer, too, which people had a lot of opinions about.

Plenty of Charli’s followers loved her outfit and her confidence, and wanted to know where they could buy a top like hers. Some commenters said:
This outfit is so chic I literally have no words 😍👑

Others, however, felt the need to criticise – but Charli clearly let the negative comments roll off her back. She responded to a few of the comments, simply telling one person “don’t buy it, then” when they said they didn’t like her top. When one user said:
Guess some women have no class what so ever now a days. Why have your nipples on show like that.
Charli retorted:
That’s funny because to me, being classy is keeping your opinions to yourself but anyway go off
And when another wrote:
How many people pointed out that its see-through??
Charli simply replied:
one – your dad
One user said:
That’s a weird shirt 😂
Charli came back with:
don’t buy it then bye
Speaking to Cosmopolitan UK, Charli shared, “I saw the top months ago online and wanted it during lockdown – it’s sold in limited quantities by a small designer in NYC and I love supporting smaller independent brands.”
She went on to say, “I honestly don’t see what the big deal is with me wearing it but it’s definitely stirred up a reaction online. Most of the comments are positive but then you get a small minded person saying things like, ‘don’t go crying to the police if you get attacked.'”
Charli pointed out that “there have been tons of flat chested, skinny girls (like Bella Hadid) also wearing the top who haven’t had the same reaction or comments.”
It’s true: plenty of influencers have shared the top to their feeds, many of whom received kinder reactions from their followers.

Charli concluded with, “I think it says a lot about curvier girls wearing the same thing as thinner girls; how wearing something as a really thin girl doesn’t automatically make you fashionable; and how having boobs instantly sexualises something, when in all honesty, I just really liked it!”
